Future Leaders

Are you a student or 18-30?
Are you passionate about creating social impact?
Are you looking to secure a paid summer internship?

Then apply to our 2024 Building Future Leaders summer internship programme. We help ambitious students and young people find meaningful paid work experience across a sector with a strong social purpose. Over an 8 week housing and construction placement you will also attend professional development sessions and participate in a group activity with the opportunity to present your projects to senior leaders across the housing and construction sector.

How it works

Submit you CV and answer one of the 5 questions below in 1000 words or less  â€‹

  • Why should housing be the Governments' top priority?

  • What can the housing and construction sector do to tackle climate change? 

  • The lack of affordable housing is the main cause of homelessness in the UK. To what extent do you agree? 

  • How does the architectural design and planning of developments impact individuals' and local communities? 

  • There is a lack of diversity in the housing and construction sector. Explain its impact and how it can be addressed?

What you could be doing

The type of work you will be doing depends on what organisation you are matched with and the area you are placed in. However, we aim to match you based on your preference areas

  • Trades - painters, plumbers

  • Project Management

  • Finance

  • Real Estate  

  • Land and Development 

  • Planning 

  • Housing Income Officer

  • Housing Management

  • Economics and Research

  • Marketing, Sales and Design   

  • Sustainability

A summer placement will:

  • Provide you with the opportunity to gain meaningful  paid work experience 

  • Develop your professional network  

  • Improve your soft and technical skills  

  • Enhance your employability  

  • Expand your knowledge by providing an insight into a sector and organisation you may never have considered 

  • Only students OR those aged 18-30 years old may apply 

  • Only one entry is permitted per individual and your CV and essay must be submitted by 5pm on Friday 7th April 2023 

  • Individuals must have the right to work in the UK 

  • Essays should be no longer than 1000 words (excluding references and footnotes) 

  • References and footnotes are optional and can be provided in any format.  

  • The essay must be the sole creation and original work of each individual. Any assistance provided must be stated on the application.  

  • The essay should begin with a cover page stating the word count 

  • Building Future Leaders reserves the right to publish or reproduce any or all of any essay entered to the 2023 summer internship programme 

  • Taking up of any internship will be subject to each host organisations security checks
